Rain or shine, the third annual Millstock Festival will take place Saturday at The Coffee Mill on Lombard Street.
This year's entertainment lineup features many Coffee Mill regulars, said Jodi Sager, owner of the coffee shop. "It's just bands, from bluegrass to rock and roll," she said. "It's a lot of our people that support us."
Blue Dust Box returns from last year to close out the music at 5 p.m. Also in the lineup are Sibilance, from 11 a.m. till noon; Brown Mountain Lights, noon till 1 p.m.; KidSister, 1-2 p.m.; Friends in Bluegrass, 2-3 p.m.; No Dice, 3-4 p.m.; and P3, 4-5 p.m.
"I think our biggest dilemma was that we didn't have enough spots for everyone to play," Sager said.
This year's art and music festival is shorter than last year's, which began in the morning and ended after sundown. Millstock 2003 runs from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m.
While the event takes place at The Coffee Mill, the coffee shop is just a backdrop for the arts that day, Sager said. "We want people to come out and see we like the arts, and we want to do something special," she said.
The Coffee Mill regularly exhibits artwork by locals on its walls, but Sager said newcomers would join familiar artists this year. "There are some new names for me, so I'm interested," she said.
Beaded jewelry, beaded glassware, etchings in wood, painted furniture, photography, stained glass, and paintings in a variety of styles and mediums will be on display and on sale.
Kids can find plenty to do at Millstock also. Penny Evans will do face painting all day, or kids can help with an interactive mural.
A new feature this year, the mural will be an all-day project that anyone can contribute to. Clayton artist Cheryl McCardle will roll out some giant paper in the morning, and festival attendees can come by and express their inner artist.
After that, they can relax with a chair massage from Denise Broughton or stop by for a yoga workshop with Catherine Eberhardt.
On Monday morning, Sager said, she had about 10 exhibit spaces still available. "They can come by the morning of," she said. "We can always make room for more."
Spaces rent for $10 each, and artists need to bring their own table, chairs and weather protection.
